SGS is proud to have a team of expert seminar leaders who are constantly providing continuing education to the dental community. SGS instructors come from a variety of dental and medical backgrounds and together share a goal of educating more practitioners on the protocols, processes and technology needed to offer life saving therapy to more patients.
Dr. Barry Freydberg, a 1968 graduate of the University Of Illinois College Of Dentistry is a full-time practicing dentist. He was named “Alumni of the Year” in 2004.He is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and a Fellow of the International Academy for Dental-Facial Esthetics. He is a leading speaker on conservative “Prepless” esthetic dentistry and is considered a pioneer in raising dentists’ awareness of the ever-growing link between high technology and practice and clinical management. And, as digital technology has matured, he also focuses on “Techsthetics”, the link between technology and diagnosing, marketing and providing better esthetic dentistry.
Dr Michael Hnat received his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1979 and has been in private general practice since then. He completed undergraduate studies summa cum laude at West Virginia University majoring in Biology with a minor in Physiology. In 2007 Dr Hnat relocated his practice to McMurray, PA focusing on dental sleep medicine as an integral part of his care to patients. His dental sleep medicine facility- Progressive Dental Solutions- was one of the first in the country to be granted full accreditation by the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine demonstrating proficiency, practice and professionalism in providing optimal care to patients with sleep disordered breathing. He passionately works with a broad network of medical specialists and sleep labs throughout Southwestern PA and neighboring areas of Ohio and West Virginia in helping these individuals improve their quality of life. Dr Hnat is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Dawne Slabach has a clinical practice focused on Sleep-Disordered Breathing, TMJ disorders and orthodontics. Her passion for treating patients comes from her own personal experiences with all three areas of treatment. Dr. Slabach received her B.S. in Biochemistry in 1984 and her Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1988, both from the Ohio State University. She is a Diplomate in the Academy of Sleep Disorders Disciplines, Distinguished Fellow in the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain and a Certified Assistant Instructor for the International Association of Orthodontics. She is also a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and an assistant instructor for Rondeau Seminars. She has been practicing and teaching Dental Sleep Medicine for the past 8 years.
SGS Vice President John Nadeau has been actively involved in the dental sleep medicine community since 2002. He has worked with several hundred dentists in the field and helped many of them get started with sleep in their own practices. An expert on airway acoustic imaging and home sleep testing John authored the SGS protocol manual detailing the steps-by-step process involved in taking a patient from initial screening through diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. John's passion for dental sleep medicine comes through strongly in his lectures and he has been an invited guest instructor at many dental meetings and teaching facilities across North America.
Dr. Marty Lipsey, received his DDS degree from UCLA and a Master of Science from Northwestern University Dental School. Dr. Lipsey is the founder of Dental Sleep Med Systems, offering dental teams assistance in implementing and/or improving their dental sleep medicine practices, including electronic medical billing and successful insurance coding and processing. Dr. Lipsey is also a Sleep Group Solutions Instructor, and teaches Dental Sleep Medicine regularly.
Dr. Michael L. Gelb is an innovator in sleep apnea, painful TMJ disorders, and other head and neck pain conditions. Dr. Gelb has studied breathing related sleep disorders (BRSD), specializing in how they relate to fatigue, focus and pain, and the effects all of these can have on a person’s life. Dr. Gelb received his D.D.S. degree from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1982, and his M.S. degree from SUNY at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine.
A native of Salem, MA, Dr. Tache’ has been practicing dentistry since 1975. He received his undergraduate degree from St. Anselm’s College in Manchester, NH, and his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1974. Dr. Tache began lecturing for SGS in 2006 and served as President of the Wisconsin Sleep Society.
Dr. George Jones is a native of Wheeling, WV and earned his BS in Chemistry from Wheeling Jesuit University. He received his Dental Degree from the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry, and relocated to coastal North Carolina in 2003. Over the years, Dr. Jones has served as a consultant and evaluator for several dental manufacturers and maintains a private practice in Sunset Beach, NC. .
Dr. Sutter is a 1986 graduate of Loyola Dental School and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois Champaign- Urbana. The field of dentistry is constantly changing and in order to provide her patients with the best opportunities to change their lives Dr. Vesna Sutter has taken over 500 hours of continuing education in Implants, Sedation, Orthodontics, TMJ Disorders, Cosmetic Dentistry, and Sleep Order Dentistry. She is an active member in over 10 dental associations including; Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, American Dental Association, Chicago Dental Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Jeff Horowitz, a native of Old Bridge, New Jersey, completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh , receiving early admission to dental school after his junior year. In 1991 he earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr Horowitz has dedicated himself to continuing education, earning him the fellowship award from the Academy of General Dentistry, Mentorship status at the prestigious Kois Center for Advanced Dental Studies, and fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Horowitz is also a member of the American Association of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Dr. Jerome Gildner is a native of Mequon, Wisconsin, and has been in private practice since 1985. He received his undergraduate at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and his Doctor of Dental Science degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry. Dr. Gildner is a Certified Assistant Instructor for the International Association of Orthodontics and continues to lecture around the US on Airway Obstruction in Pediatric Patients and Interceptive Orthodontics. He has been practicing Sleep Dentistry for the past 10 years, and is a current member of the ADSM and the AASM.
Dr. Blum has trained and studied under many of the top clinicians in the world for the past 28 years. He began his journey toward becoming a dentist after graduating from UMBC in 1979, with a BA in Biology and Psychology. He then studied at Boston University’s School of Dental Medicine, graduating with a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 1983, and in the same year opened the doors of his first private practice in Baltimore. Desiring to open a dental practice in his home community, he finally opened the doors of a new practice in 1987, this practice in Ellicott City. Today, Dr. Blum runs one of the busiest Sleep Practices in Ellicott City. Recently Voted one of Americas “Top Dentists” by Independent Consumers Research Group, Dr. Blum is also an active Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, an active Member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and many more association.
Dr. Stacey Layman is a true believer in oral appliance therapy. After graduating from Baylor College of Dentistry, she moved to Arizona for an associate position and within a year purchased a modest family dental practice. Her practice has changed into a cosmetic and sleep disorder practice, and she can work less while keeping up production. Dr. Layman has appeared on ABC, NBC and CBS with a featured segment on treating sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy. She is on the advisory board for DenMat Holdings and LLC and Nucalm. Dr. Layman is also the Team dentist for Seattle Mariners, and the dentist on call for Sonoran Living Live on ABC 15 and Your Life A to Z on 3TV. Dr. Layman is also an active member in over 8 dental associations, including the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentists, American Academy of Sleep Dentistry and the Academy of General Dentistry.
Dr. Ely received undergraduate training at the University of Western Ontario with a study focus in actuarial sciences. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan Dental School 1997, one of the best in the country. Upon graduation Dr. Ely was a clinical instructor at the University of Michigan Periodontology Department. She has been a dentist for over 15 years and has been through several post graduate courses in different fields of dentistry since receiving her DDS degree. She is a Member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, and American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Ely's passion for Dental Sleep Medicine stems from her loss of her father at a young age due to suspected undiagnosed sleep apnea. Her passion is not just treating sleep apnea but also doing her due diligence as a dental professional by aiding in the screening process.
